Deputy Sheriff Michael Van Kuren Bradford County Sheriff Department, Pennsylvania On 3/31/04 Deputy Sheriff Michael VanKuren and his partner Deputy Sheriff Christopher Burgert went out to a home in a rural county to serve a bench warrant on a male subject; a sentenced criminal and his girlfriend on previous drug charges and to take them into custody and transport them back to the jail. Deputy VanKuren and Deputy Burgert were both ambushed upon arrival at the site by gunfire and died of multiple gunshot wounds. Deputy Sheriff VanKuren is survived by hsi wife Elane VanKuren, his son Andrew, his daughter Tifani and extended family members. In Pennsylvania, Deputy Sheriff's double as Correctional Officers in the jail.
