Edgefield County Sheriffs Office, South Carolina Deputy Sheriff Allen “Pete“ Myers was killed on September 19, 2000 when his cruiser was hit head-on by a drunk driver. Deputy Myers was transporting a juvenile to a youth detention facility in another county when the fatal accident occurred. The drunk driver’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck the cruiser, which flipped several times before landing in an adjoining orchard. Deputy Myers died at the scene; the juvenile was treated for injuries at a local hospital and released back into custody. Deputy Myers had been in law enforcement for three years and with the agency for one year. He attended Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina and South Carolina Law Enforcement Academy, from which he graduated as president of his class. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and also worked for the Saluda School District as a teacher’s assistant for students with special needs. He was an avid golfer and a NASCAR fan. Deputy Myers is survived by his wife, Sheila; and their son, Allen Joseph.
