Detention Officer Alvin Glenn Richland County Detention Center, South Carolina, South Carolina Richland County Detention Center, South Carolina Detention Officer Alvin Glenn was murdered on September 17, 2000. Deputy Glenn was attacked during an escape attempt at the county jail. He was locking prisoners back in their cells when he was overpowered by three inmates who handcuffed him, beat him and strangled him to death. The perpetrators escaped through the roof of the jail but were injured when they attempted to jump to the ground. All three were taken into custody before they could escape the compound. Deputy Glenn was the only Officer to oversee the 64 inmates in the medium security area. He had been with the agency for five years at the time of his death. Deputy Glenn is survived by his children, Nicole Snowden, Alvin McEwen and Andre McEwen; and his sister, Myrice Jones.
