Correctional Officer Raymond Curtis
Camp Georgetown Correctional Facility, New York
New York State Department of Correctional Services Corrections Officer Raymond J. Curtis of Camp Georgetown Correctional Facility died on March 30, 2000 in a work accident. Officer Curtis was supervising a crew clearing trees in a wildlife management area. He was carrying a log on his shoulders when he slipped and fell, sustaining a fatal injury to the head. Officer Curtis was a Marine Corps veteran who served two tours of duty in Vietnam from 1964-1968. He received numerous medals and was an expert marksman. He was a member of the American Legion. In 1989 he began his career in the New York State Department of Correctional Services at Fishkill Correctional Facility. He had been a private and professional logger for 30 years. Officer Curtis is survived by his wife, Carol, and their three sons, Dean, William and Chad.
