Deputy Sheriff Christopher Burgert Bradford County Sheriff Department, Pennsylvania On 3/31/04 Deputy Sheriff Christopher Burgert went out to a home with his partner Deputy Sheriff Michael VanKuren in a rural county to serve a bench warrant on a male subject; a sentenced criminal and his girlfriend on previous drug charges and to take them into custody and transport them back to the jail. Deputy Burgert and Deputy VanKuren were both ambushed upon arrival at the site by gunfire and died of multiple gunshot wounds. Deputy Sheriff Burgert is survived by his wife Kimberly Burgert and his son Christian, his father and stepmother Paul and Dorothy Burgert, his mother and stepfather Margo and Ronald Davidson, 4 stepsisters and 2 stepbrothers. In Pennsylvania Deputy Sheriff's double as Correctional Officers in the jail.
