Deputy Sheriff Jason Acton Randolph County Sheriffs Department, Missouri Randolph County Sheriffs Department, Missouri Deputy Sheriff Jason Acton and his colleague, Jail Supervisor Leon Egley, were killed on June 22, 2000 during an attempted jail break at the rural Randolph County Jail. Both men were fatally shot by two individuals trying to free an incarcerated friend. Following departmental regulations, neither Deputy Acton nor Jail Supervisor Egley was armed while in the jail. Deputy Acton graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy at Moberly Community College in May 2000. Shortly before, he had already been hired by the Randolph County Sheriffs Department. Age 36, he had been on the job for only two months when he was killed. Deputy Acton was a devoted family man who also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his parents, Owen and Katherine Acton, to whom he was not only a son but a close friend; his sister, Linda Wait; his brother, Allen Acton; and his fiancée.
