Transport Officer Laura Whittingham – December 6, 2007 – Howell County Sheriff’s Department- Missouri. While transporting two inmates to Howell County from a Missouri Department of Corrections Facility the driver of the transport vehicle lost control and crashed. Severe weather and ice were contributing factors to the cause of the crash. Officer Whittingham and one of the inmates were killed in the crash. The other deputy in the vehicle sustained serious injuries. Officer Whittingham is survived by her husband Jeremy, 11-year old son Jacob, 9-year old twin daughters Hannah and Haley, her mother Doris and stepfather Kenneth.
