Deputy Paul Rein – November 7, 2007 – Broward County Sheriff’s Office Florida. While transporting an inmate to the Broward County Courthouse, Deputy Paul Rein was overpowered by the inmate even though the inmate was in restraints. The inmate shot and killed Deputy Rein, dumped his body in a parking lot and then escaped in the Department van. The inmate was later apprehended. Deputy Rein is survived by his wife Theresa, and adult sons Joe and Richard.
