Corrections Officer Stephen Anderson – June 25, 2007 – Utah State Prison Utah Department of Corrections. Officer Stephen Anderson was shot and killed when an inmate in his custody attempted to escape. As Officer Anderson tried to prevent the escape, the inmate wrestled Officer Anderson’s gun from him and fatally shot him in the head. After killing Officer Anderson, the inmate fled and carjacked an SUV. He abandoned the vehicle in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant and ran inside. The inmate was later apprehended by police. Officer Anderson is survived by his wife Mildred and their five adult children Shawn, Sherrie, Lisa, Melanie, Michelle and 17 grandchildren.
