Correctional Officer John Allen – March 16, 2005 Nassau County Sheriff’s Department. On July 23, 2001 Officer Allen was responding to a body alarm when he slipped on fluid that was on the floor, He slid toward the guard walk cell gate, his right foot got caught under the gate and was twisted causing pain to shoot from his foot to his lower back he then fell to the floor. He was taken to the hospital for treatments. In February 2005 underwent surgery to have an artificial disc placed to repair lumbar spinal disc herniation caused from injuries, and on 3/16/05 died of acute thromboembolism of pulmonary arteries caused from the surgery. Officer Allen is survived by his wife Beth, son John Jr age 8 and twin daughters Katie and Emily age 4.
