1/1/2006 Correctional Officer Vincent Robert Cannon Department of Corrections, Arizona Arizona State Prison Complex – Lewis Correctional Officer Cannon was murdered during a New Year’s Eve get together with friends by an Arizona Department of Corrections Parolee who was at the party, unbeknownst to Cannon. The ex-inmate initiated a discussion about tattoos with several people at the gathering and the conversation became heated and a fight broke our during which the inmate stabbed three people inside the home and ran outside where Cannon was, When people came out alarming everyone what had just happened, Officer Cannon tried to prevent the inmate from returning into the house to harm anyone else when the inmate stabbed Officer Cannon in the front yard. He died a short time later at a local hospital. The other three victims’ injuries were not life threatening. It appears that Cannon prevented further people from being injured at the risk of his own life. He is survived by his Mother Rosemarie Cannon, his sister Christine, brother Gregory and Fiance Wendy Goldenbee
