6/27/2005 Lieutenant James “Bo” Weaver Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office Dinwiddie, Virginia Lieutenant Weaver was transporting a juvenile prisoner from Amelia County Courthouse to the Crater Detention Center. The vehicle used for the transport was not equipped with a cage. While Lieutenant Weaver yielded for traffic, the prisoner jumped from the back seat into the front seat and got control of Weaver’s service weapon and directed him from his course to a dead end street off the interstate. Lieutenant Weaver exited his unit and started to flee from the suspect. The prisoner, a 15 year old male fired multiple rounds at the Lieutenant striking him multiple times. He fired more rounds as he fled the scene. He was taken into custody a short time later without further incidence of violence and was in possession of Weaver’s service weapon. He is survived by his wife Deloise, daughter Kimberly and son Donnell.
