8/28/2005 Correctional Officer Stephen Heiss Department of Corrections, Pennsylvania SCI Huntingdon Correctional Officer Stephen Heiss was entering the private club of the United Veterans Association when three individuals were trying to enter the club and told they could not do so because they were not members. The three men departed, and one returned from his vehicle with a handgun where he began shooting the owner of the establishment, and the doorman. Correctional Officer Heiss tried to intervene and was also shot, but not before pushing his fellow Correctional Officer friend out of harm’s way. The perpetrator then fled the scene and later called the police stating he thought he “may have harmed someone?” Upon capturing the suspect, the police found him to be an illegal alien from Mexico who had had prior
