Texas Department of Criminal Justice-ID Inspector Stephen Stewart died in the line of duty in January 1994. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Inspector Stewart began his career with the TDCJ as a Correctional Officer and was subsequently promoted. His widow Debbie became a CPO Foundation Representative in 1995. Now recognized and respected throughout Texas, and in many a Midwestern and Southern state, Debbie has made the CPO Foundation an active part of the lives of hundreds of Correctional Officers. She is also responsible for the extraordinary number of TDCJ facilities that are Lifetime Sponsors of the CPOF. Husband Marshall Herklotz, a top Administrator in the TDCJ-ID, is also a leading spokesman and advocate for the CPO Foundation. Son David Stewart is a member of the “Teen Corps” at Project 2000, helping newly-bereaved teen cope with the tragic loss of a father or mother in Corrections.
