Correctional Officer Samad Muhammad, Essex County, New Jersey, Department of Public Safety, Corrections Officer Samad Muhammad was killed on April 26, 1995 in an unprovoked drive-by shooting by an escapee from Northern State Prison. The escapee was later caught in Florida as a result of the “America’s Most Wanted” television program. Officer Muhammad had served his Department for only five months at the time of his death at age 29. He was considered a role model in his community. He is survived by his mother Latifah, two children, four siblings and an aunt.
