Correctional Officer Andre Motley Essex County Jail Annex, New Jersey Essex County, New Jersey Department of Public Safety Corrections Officer André Motley was shot and killed on March 11, 1995 while trying to break up a street fight. Officer Motley was 25 at the time of his death and had been an Officer with the Essex County Department of Public Safety for just two months. He had formerly worked as a records clerk for the Newark, New Jersey Police Department. Officer Motley is survived by his parents Micchellie and Walter Soréy and daughter Aysia. Since 1996, Micchellie and Walter have been regular attendees at Project 2000 when it is held in Washington, D.C., and Walter, an accomplished musician, sings the National Anthem at the Annual Memorial Service.
