Correctional Officer Arthur Liles, Mississippi Penitentiary, Parchman, Mississippi Mississippi Department of Corrections Correctional Officer Arthur Liles of Mississippi State Penitentiary, Parchman, Mississippi sustained a serious leg injury while participating in a K-9 Unit simulated escape exercise at night. The injury produced a blood clot which traveled to his heart. Officer Liles died from a heart attack on February 13, 1999. He was 35 years old, a 12-year veteran of the Mississippi Department of Corrections and served 12 years in the National Guard. He enjoyed fishing, rabbit hunting, traveling and playing around on his computer. Officer Liles is survived by his wife of 17 years, Lisa, and their daughter, Korine.
