Correctional Captain David Knapps Louisiana State Penitentiary, Angola, Louisiana Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections Corrections Captain David Knapps of Louisiana State Penitentiary, Angola, Louisiana was murdered by inmates on December 28, 1999. He was taken hostage with two others during an inmate escape attempt. Warden Burl Cain was able to get the three inmates to surrender, it was then that the body of Captain Knapps was found stabbed and beaten. He was 49 years old and worked for the Department of Corrections for 12 years. Officer Knapps was an avid golfer, loved music, played guitar and wrote his own songs. At the time of his death he was in the middle of building his own home. Captain Knapps is survived by his son, Davy Knapps; fiancée, Vicki Delatte and her son, Jonathon; mother, Anita; sisters, Cynthia Honeycutt, Christine Gauf, Celeste Faulkner, Carolyn Whitstine, Clara Knapps, and Connie Ross; brothers, Henry Knapps, Alvin Knapps Jr., Jack Knapps, and Robert Knapps; and more extended family.
