Correctional Sergeant Kennith Hendrick
Marion Correctional Institution in Lowell, Florida
Florida Department of Corrections Correctional Sergeant Kenneth Hendrick died in the line of duty on January 28, 1993. Sergeant Hendrick broke up an altercation between two inmates at Marion Correctional Institution in Lowell. While he was escorting one of the inmates back to the housing unit, the inmate started fighting Sergeant Hendrick, striking him several times and then throwing him against a wall. The inmate jumped on Sergeant Hendrick as he fell, causing a massive heart attack. Sergeant Hendrick was 52 at the time of his death and had served his Department for over 20 years. He is survived by his wife Patricia, son Steven, brother Danny and sister Helen. Patricia Hendrick was escorted at the Project 2000 IV Memorial Service by longtime family friends George and Patty Gilmore. At the time, Patty Gilmore was a Lieutenant with the Florida DOC.
