Correctional Officer Cherylann Harding Greenhaven Correctional Facility, New York New York Department of Corrections Corrections Officer Cherylann Ferguson Harding was killed in the line of duty on July 14, 1995. Officer Harding died of gunshot wounds to the head inflicted by a fellow Corrections Officer who lost control in the Employee Housing Unit, opened fire and first shot Officer Kimberly DiCerbo. Officer Harding was shot and killed coming to the aid of Officer DiCerbo. She was 38 at the time of her death, an Army Reservist and a volunteer with the Special Olympics and various community service organizations. Cherylann is survived by sister Erica Cleary, mother Nancy Herrington, husband Jim, and devoted father and stepmother John and Marilyn Ferguson.
