Correctional Officer Matthew Goodwin State Correctional Institution, Greensburg, Pennsylvania Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Correctional Officer Matthew Goodwin of State Correctional Institution-Greensburg, Pennsylvania died from a massive heart attack on January 29, 1999 while participating in physical training for the C.E.R.T. Team. He was 37 years old and a graduate of Connellsville Area High School. He was an accomplished Automotive Technician from the Vale Tech School in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. Officer Goodwin was a veteran of Desert Storm, the Gulf War and Somalia. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and an avid hunter and fisherman. Officer Goodwin is survived by his wife of 14 years, Valarie; and their three children, Matthew Jr., Kyle and Suzzanna Jane. He is also survived by his parents, Robert and Charlene Goodwin; two sisters, Linda Berkey and Candice Hardy; and three brothers, Robert Jr., Malcom and Charles Goodwin.
