Deputy Sheriff Sherry Goodman Shelby County Sheriff's Department, Tennessee Tennessee Sheriff’s Deputy Sherry Goodman Shelby County Sheriff’s Department was killed in the line of duty on July 26, 1996. Age 38, she was shot in the head several times by a prisoner who, although heavily handcuffed in Deputy Goodman’s squad car, still managed to access a hidden pistol. Deputy Goodman is survived by her husband Walter, aka “Dale," and daughters Ashley and Tracey. Deputy Goodman was represented at Project 2000 VIII in 1997 by Dale’s sister Barbara Ballard, Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Shelby County Jail.
