Correctional Officer Robert Friedt
Maximum Security Facility in Ionia, Michigan
Michigan Department of Corrections Correctional Officer Robert Freidt worked at the Maximum Security Facility in Ionia, Michigan. He collapsed from a heart attack only minutes after a tense confrontation with a belligerent inmate whom Officer Friedt had succeeded in talking into returning to his cell. Officer Friedt died two days later, on February 14, 1996. He was 58 and had served his Department for ten years. He is survived by his adult children Timothy, Jeffrey, Cara and Roberta Friedt; Cathy Carroll; and Chris Fawcett, as well as a stepdaughter and a stepson.
