Deputy US Marshall Roy Frakes United States Marshals Service, Illinios United States Marshals Service Deputy United States Marshal Roy Frakes was killed in the line of duty on July 20, 1992. Deputy U.S. Marshal Frakes was escorting inmates at a hearing at the federal courthouse in Chicago when one of the inmates overpowered another escort, seized her weapon and shot Deputy Marshal Frakes first in the head and then in the upper back. The perpetrator was on trial for eight bank robberies. He shot and killed Court Security Officer Harry Belluomini moments after killing Deputy Marshal Frakes. Before he died Officer Belluomini fired four rounds and severely wounded the perpetrator twice. The perpetrator then shot himself in the head. Deputy Marshal Frakes was 30 at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife Wendy, brother Robbie, sister Kimberly and parents Roy and Jo Ann. Wendy Frakes attended Project 2000 IV in 1993 in the company of Officer Belluomini’s widow Milly.
