Correctional Officer William Donaldson West Jefferson Correctional Facility, Alabama Alabama Department of Corrections Correctional Officer William Donaldson was stabbed to death by an inmate on January 12, 1990 at what was then the West Jefferson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, Alabama. The institution was later renamed the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility. Officer Donaldson was escorting a nurse to deliver medication to an inmate when the fatal stabbing occurred. Officer Donaldson’s widow Jennifer became a CPO Foundation Representative within a year of Bill’s death and has distinguished herself by her outstanding efforts on behalf of the Foundation. It is largely owing to Jennifer’s persistence and dedication that payroll deduction for the CPO Foundation was achieved in Alabama. Her parents, also became and continue to be beloved Foundation volunteers. Officer Donaldson's Daughter, a talented singer, has given her voice to every Project 2000 since 1991 and is now one of the “Teen Corps” at Project who help other teens cope with the death of a father or mother in Corrections a younger brother also has been an essential presence at Project for years.
