Lieutenant Steve Crerar Fremont County Sheriff's Department, Wyoming Wyoming Lieutenant Steve Crerar Fremont County Sheriff’s Department was killed in the line of duty at age 62 on April 30, 1995. He was fatally shot in the head by the 16-year-old runaway from the Wyoming Boys School whom Lieutenant Crerar had volunteered to pick up and had just transported 300 miles back to custody. Lieutenant Crerar’s widow Sharon became a Wyoming CPO Foundation Volunteer in 1999. Additionally, daughter Tracy Eckhardt and her husband have participated in the CPO Foundation’s fundraising golf tournaments.
