Probation Parole Officer David Cortner North Carolina Department of Corrections Division of Community Corrections, North Carolina North Carolina Department of Correction Division of Community Corrections Probation Parole Officer David Cortner of Franklin County, North Carolina was killed in a vehicle accident on July 12, 1999. He was on duty when his state vehicle was hit by a young driver who lost control of her car and crossed over into the on-coming lane of traffic. Officer Cortner died from the injuries he sustained in the accident. He was 36 years old and had been with the Division of Community Corrections since December 1990. Officer Cortner was a caring person with a strong faith. He was a friend to his co-workers, a good listener and always offered to help others. Officer Cortner is survived by his wife, Phyllis; and his mother, Loretta.
