Sheriff Deputy Kelly Clark

Sierra County, New Mexico Sheriff's Department Sheriff Deputy Kelly Clark was murdered on March 4, 1999 by a parole violator. She was transporting the offender back to state prison when he broke through several levels of security in the back of the vehicle and was able to seize her duty weapon. Deputy Clark was shot once in the thigh and twice in the back of the head. She was 38 years old, an eight year-veteran of the Sheriff's Department and an advocate in her community. She worked to fight child abuse, sexual abuse, stalking and gang violence. Deputy Clark was involved with upgrading computer technology in schools; she loved horses and was the President and a Founding member of the Sierra County Sheriff's Association. Deputy Clark is survived by her daughter, Lindsay Hauser; fiancé Santiago Hernandez; her mother, Linda and her husband Austin Eckert; her father, James and his wife Carol Gambrell; her brother, Timothy; her sister, Jennifer; and a large extended family.
