Correctional Officer III Wilmont Burnett Texas Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Officer III Wilmot A. Burnett of the Inmate Transportation Department died on December 16, 1999 from injuries he had sustained two years prior in a transportation accident on December 17, 1997. Officer Burnett was the passenger in an agency Blue Bird bus guarding offenders being transported from the Estelle Unit to the Eastham Unit. Officer Burnett sustained a severe blow to the head and a four-inch laceration. He returned to light duty work at the Huntsville Unit, but on January 29, 1998 he collapsed from a subdural hemotoma. Officer Burnett worked for 12 years for the TDCJ Inmate Transportation Department. He had served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, eight children; 22 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Officer Burnett is also survived by his mother
