Correctional Officer Sandra Bachman Arizona State Prison Complex-Perryville, Arizona Arizona Department of Corrections Correctional Officer Sandra Bachman died in the line of duty on June 26, 1990. On that day, Officer Bachman was supervising a fire crew of 17 inmates from Arizona State Prison Complex-Perryville. They were fighting what has been designated the Dude Fire when the fire crowned, trapping Officer Bachman and five members of her crew. All perished in seconds. Officer Bachman is survived by her mother Ethyle and sister Carole Fallis. On November 15, 1991 CPO Foundation Board Chairman Glenn Mueller and Research Analyst Barbara Burchfield attended a ceremony at ASPC-Perryville at which a memorial to Officer Bachman was dedicated. The memorial features a bronze likeness of Officer Bachman and was constructed using funds donated for the purpose by the CPO Foundation.
