Correctional Officer Jeffery Blakley, Cook County DOC, Illinios Cook County, Illinois Department of Corrections, Correctional Officer Jeffery Blakley died in the line of duty on January 5, 1988. During a prisoner escape attempt, Officer Blakley, 41, chased the prisoner and both fell down a stairwell. Officer Blakley suffered a compound fracture of the leg which resulted in an embolism that led to Officer Blakley’s death. Officer Blakley had worked for 17 years for the Cook County DOC. His stately mother Queenie has been an honored guest of the CPO Foundation at Project 2000 for many years. Queenie never fails to speak heartfelt words at the Sunday Prayer Breakfast that move and impact all who regard and listen to this truly queenly lady who lost a beloved son dedicated to the Corrections profession.
